And they love the hooves

Bubble and Shanaynay.....gnawing away on hoof chews Mark gave them.
When they've got a hold of these.....nothing will peel them away.
Sometimes they try to take it outside when I let them go potty.
AND.........its pretty much the first thing they think about when they get up in the morning. Bubble rushes out of her crate....in search of her hoof chew....and Shanaynay, the same.

Florida "Snow"

So this morning....I wake up to find "Florida Snow" on the property. And some Ice.
The horses were blanketed due to the freezing cold weather.
Yep...."Florida Snow".....we always welcome you anytime. (smile)
This may be as close to "snow" that we'll get this year..............
The grass "crunched" everytime I stepped on it.

Valentines Day Tribute

Happy Valentines Day Everybody!
Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

Special thanks to American Greetings.

Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?
Thou are more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And Summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd:
But thy eternal Summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Shall I Compare Thee, (Sonnet XVIII)by William Shakespeare

I love you Mark.....Always and Forever xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Hearts History

For over a century now, the makers of NECCO Sweethearts Conversation Hearts have come up with some of the sweetest ways of saying “I love you”. The company prints new messages on the tiny colored hearts every year, and can you believe they’ve been a holiday tradition since the Civil War?

These conversation hearts were invented in the 1860’s by the brother of NECCO’s founder. These first hearts had printed paper notes tucked inside. The lengthy , old-fashioned sayings included such wistful thoughts as “Please send a lock of your hair by return mail.” ~~~hmmm…..???

Sweet Talk for the Times
Some favorites among the more than one hundred Sweetheart sayings have been in circulation since the hearts were first factory-made in 1902. These classics include "Kiss Me," "Sweet Talk," and "Be Mine." Sometimes a motto is discontinued for a time and then makes a reappearance; others are gone for good. Sayings considered outdated by NECCO include the funky "Dig Me" and the cheerful "You Are Gay."
NECCO says that creating mottoes can be tricky. The new sayings can't be "offensive, distasteful, or too wordy," according to Walter Marshall, retired NECCO vice president.
Space is also an issue. Conversation hearts come in two sizes—the standard 1/2 inch and the larger 3/4 inch model. The small hearts generally can fit no more than two words with four letters each, while the large hearts may accommodate two words with six letters each. Fortunately, creative phrasing can help fit longer sentiments onto the tiny hearts, as in the case of "EZ 2 LOVE."

Say It Again, Sweetheart
If you miss some of the old sayings, or would like to see some of your own, you can have them custom-made. The catch is that you'll have to buy a full production run, or about 1.7 million candy hearts. But you'll have plenty of time to eat them—they should stay fresh for at least five years.
Production of Sweethearts for Valentine's Day has already begun. There's still a chance to submit your slogan ideas for next year, however. NECCO must produce about 100,000 pounds of the candy hearts every day in order to meet the Valentine demand, when about 8 billion hearts are sold in six weeks.

Color.Mood.Food

I'm pretty sure you must be wondering...what on earth is Gabriella's blog about now. Well I

got to thinking the other day about colors and food.
Do we choose our foods based on how we feel? Does it tie into the food's color? If someone was to present you with two foods
you liked, but the colors were different.....you would choose the food you "felt" like having. Do you think the color of the food would be based on your decision? Or your mood? Its probably not the first thing you'd think of....but way deep in your mind...you'd be surprised how much of an affect it plays.

According to several studies.....

Color has an incredible effect on you mood, your perception, and your likes and dislikes. It’s programmed into you, and you really have little to say about it. Your reptilian mind is the part of you that is programmed to survive. It’s what makes you instinctively know that fire is bad, that red is danger, and that green is comforting. Humans developed over millions of years and color is a big part of our perception. It’s why orange is often used to make products that are high priced look more inviting because psychologically it makes them seem more affordable. And it’s why red is the most prominent color in fast food logos –red stimulates appetite. And it’s why you will have trouble eating food that is blue. What food is blue? Exactly! Okay, maybe blueberries but how about some blue mashed potatoes with blue meatloaf and blue gravy? See what I mean?
Corporations spend millions of dollars testing colors on consumers every day. Why? Because they know color has a huge affect on how you perceive their products.
Red is the color that we pay the most attention to. It is the warmest and most energic color in the spectrum.
We associate red with love, valentines, danger, desire, speed, strength, violence, anger, emergency exit signs, stop signs and blood.
With strawberries being my all time favorite....I find it VERY hard to say NO to them. I can eat strawberries ANYTIME!

Green is a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world. Green also represents tranquility, good luck, health, and jealousy.
Researchers have also found that green can improve reading ability. Some students may find that laying a transparent sheet of green paper over reading material increases reading speed and comprehension.
Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Even today, green M & M's (an American chocolate candy) are said to send a sexual message.
Green is often used in decorating for its calming effect, For example, guests waiting to appear on television programs often wait in a “green room” to relax.
Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal. Those who have a green work environment experience fewer stomachaches.
Consider how green is used in language: green thumb, green with envy, greenhorn.
When I'm eating a salad....I feel cool and somewhat close to nature. I feel good because I know I'm eating a healthy meal.
Are salads more appetizing when there is a variation of veggies in them (RED tomato, YELLOW peppers, ORANGE carrots, BLACK dashes of pepper...etc. Versus a plain lettuce and carrot salad???
So next time you sit down to have your next meal...or your driving around town looking for a place to eat or looking at the food on a menu, test yourself and see if "COLOR" played a role in choosing your food OR if your "MOOD" played a role. Give it a little thought. You might be surprised.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

May your 2007 be Happy and Blessed!!!!

Lowry Park Zoo

We took a trip to the Zoo the week after Christmas....
and what a fun time we had!!!

So ever wonder why some Flamingos are PINK and some are WHITE?
Flamingos filter-feed on shellfish and algae. Their oddly-shaped beaks are specially adapted to separate mud and silt from the food they consume, and are uniquely used upside-down. The filtering of food items is assisted by hairy structures called lamellae which line the mandibles, and the large rough-surfaced tongue. It is the shellfish and shrimps which flamingos eat which give them their distinctive pink colour, otherwise they would be white

Check out Tamani...the new baby elephant. Not sure if this is its Mom because it hung around all the elephants, however, it played with this one the most, so maybe this is the Mama.
